RainCoast Environmental served as lead advisor facilitating the collaborative development of a fisheries monitoring framework supporting the establishment of first-of-its-kind First Nations community-based commercial fisheries under the 2021 Fisheries Resources Reconciliation Agreement.
The framework was developed through a series of workshops facilitated by RainCoast and involving coastal First Nations in British Columbia, together with Fisheries and Oceans Canada fisheries management and science representatives.
The resulting draft framework established the basis for development of fisheries-specific management plans for individual Community-Based (commercial) fisheries.
